Question: doesn't your coolant run from the lower radiator hose into your engine and heater core, then out of the engine thru the thermostat to the upper radiator hose and back into the radiator unless you have a reverse flow system?

Get your self a bottle of Simple Green (or similar de-greaser / engine cleaner) and a hose or go to the car wash, spray it all down with a de-greaser, keep the worst areas soaked in cleaner for a few minutes or until you run out of cleaner lol.. then do a light rinse over it all and allow it a few hours to dry. (Repeat and scrub any areas that didn't clean up so good )
A clean engine bay is much more enjoyable to explore IMO, and you can do it on almost any budget
If you do clean it up, I would recommend putting a plastic bag or similar over the coil packs, fuse box, and battery. Not that it will hurt them to get a little wet, but I wouldn't want to soak them.

Wasn't trying to point anyone out. Honestly, I wasn't sure myself. I haven't read up on the cooling system of the Monte. Any of you who have owned many GM products knows they like to do silly things like the reverse flow system in Cadillac's of the past and the more resent closed loop system in Saturn's. Glad they did not do these things in the Monte! ;-)

You may be more familiar with Champaign or Bloomington. LeRoy is right in between the two, a good 3 hours northeast of St. Louis right in the middle of Illinois.
