Would pulling then re-install fuse for bcm module override vat system?
The worlds most expensive $600 2002 Monte Carlo is not cranking. I had to leave it at the local library yesterday and walk home. 90% of the time, the car starts, but every once in a while it won't. Last time this happened Maniac suggested it may be the security system. I think he may be right.
Right now I just want to get it back to my apartment. I saw a Youtube video that showed that if you turn the power on, then pull the 10v fuse for the bcm module then replace it you can temporarily start the car. Is this true?
Second question, anyone here do a permanent bypass of the security system?
Thanks for any help. Wally

I just walked 3.5 miles to my car in 98 degree weather, 90 percent humidity and brutal sunlight. The car started with no problems. I just remembered I have 24 hours emergency towing as part of my insurance policy. That would have worked great the night it left me walking. Today as well.

I know nothing about that BCM/Fuse trick. I know passlock anti-theft is controlled by the chip in the lock cylinder, the BCM and PCM. I know there are a few different ways to bypass it. Such as a bypass module (like what is used for remote start systems). This is a link about a trick a friend of mine in the Grand Am community uses. The anti-theft in a grand am is the same as our montes, so his tick should work on the Montes:
Have you confirmed this no-start to be the anti-theft system? When it does not start is the security light displaying?

The_maniac, I saw the video you posted. Thanks. The idea as I understand it, is to connect a 2.2k ohm resister between the yellow ignition wire (passlock system going to bcm) to black ignition wire which go's to ground. Where did your friend get this little bypass module? I just tried simply soldering a 2.2k resister between yellow and black wire and the car just shows the security light. Either I screwed up the soldering (soldering iron went out). Or the bcm is not re-learning.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Wally

Sorry I'm late with the reply, but was your car locked when you had the problem? My car did that a few times - twice in the garage (unlocked) and once in my Father in Law's driveway, also unlocked. That time, I had it towed to the garage that inspects it (PA) and asked the next day I called and asked if it was fixed. He said 'What won't it do?' A guy at the dealership said it needed a 'security bypass' which they did - all of 15 minutes and $39. He said they measure the resistance of the key, and put a resistor that size in the wiring. This was maybe 8 years ago, and it hasn't done it since. The only time it ever did it, it was unlocked. I always locked the car at work, and never had a problem there.
