A faint gasoline smell has quickly deteriorated to a genuine gas leak, although I do not know the name of the part(s) effected to research a fix-- so, can anyone assist?

The spray is light (I'm in no danger of emptying my gas tank from it, but I'm sure its a fire hazard), and seems to be emerging from between the "bracket" and the "canister"... whatever that canister is. In the first image, just to the left of the drop forming on the canister itself would be the origin.

All of this is located on the driver's side, roughly halfway back, a foot or two inward. My Monte Carlo is a 2002/2003 (I always forget) FWD.

Can anyone name what those components are called? Or give any other help?

 

I believe that canister is your fuel filter, unless the lines rusted out, hopefully a new filter sill solve the issue.

I'll have to inspect the lines when I get the time to jack it up, but replacing the fuel filter would be very easy. I hope that's the case!

Your fuel filter has been on the car for so long it has literally rusted through. DO NOT drive the car until a new filter is installed. Otherwise you are driving a time bomb just waiting to go off.

 

i would replace the any rusted section of that line as well.

i have had great success just cutting off the rusted line and flaring the end, then using fuel injection fuel line and a brass fitting into the fuel filter to repair that section.

be sure to double clamp the hose if you do this.
