Question Gas fill problem

I have a 2001 Monte Carlo SS with the 3.8. Whenever I try to fill up the gas tank, the gas pump keeps shutting off before the tank is full. It doesn't matter how you hold the nozzle, upside down, sideways, all the way in, or just inside the filler neck. It eventually will fill if you hold the nozzle lever at the slowest possible fill rate. Anyone have any ideas ?

Could have an issue with the venting of your tank. Maybe something clogging

Does it happen all the time? It might just be the pump.

Definitely sounds like an issue with the vent on the tank. It is just like pouring gasoline out of a gas can, if you don't open the vent, the gas doesn't come out very well. Same thing with filling up the gas tank, you are pumping in all that fuel very quickly and without a way to push out the air, it can't properly fill the tank.

Yea mine does the same exact thing... my pump at home has no auto shut off and works fine but it goes slower. If your in no hurry fill it at about half trigger and see how that works. So yea check out the vent, Ill try it too.

Mine does it sometimes too. What I do is pull the nozzle out a little so the fume cap doest cover the fill hole. That lets enough fumes out to relieve the pressure and allow the tank to fill properly. Dont worry, it will still automatically shut the flow off when the tank is full.
