engine code, can anyone explain it in english?
yup, the monte threw another "service engine soon" light, figured i would try my new scanner on it. the only code was:
P1652
manufacturer control
auxilery imputs
auxilery outputs
the car is running like crap now, does anyone know what the hell that code means? it sounds like my car wants me to ditch the stock radio & get a head unit, lol, but i know thats wrong
for anyone who does not know, the car is a '97 LS, stock 3.1 and 153,000 miles.
can anyone assist?
thanks much!

P1652 = Electric Cooling Fan 2 Relay Control Circuit
Your relay for fan 2 is giving you problems. Can't tell you which is #2, but I'd guess the passenger side
Google your trouble codes as "monte carlo p1652 obdII", and you get things like these:
http://www.aa1car.com/trouble-codes/...1500-p1699.htm
and a GREAT one:
http://www.mobile-abgastester.de/Dat...ercodes/GM.pdf
There are others, and it isn't always the same. If it was a Cadillac or Corvette it could be Powertrain Induced Chassis Pitch Output Circuit.
Always check a couple of sites. The 2nd site actually reads:
P1652 Fan 2 Relay Control Circuit (Except Cadillac & Corvette)/VSS Output Circuit (1996 Corvette)/Powertrain Induced Chassis Pitch Output Circuit (1997- 98 Corvette)/Lift/Drive Output
Circuit (Cadillac)
Haynes manual says it's the fan relay also.
So now google "monte carlo fan 2 relay circuit", and you get:
The fans are controlled by 2 relays that are located in the fuse box mounted on the right fenderwell.
The fans get their power from the relays through the light blue wire from relay 1 to fan 1 and the white wire from relay 2 to fan 2. The black wires on both fans are ground
If the relays are dead, they get their power through the red wires from the 2 60amp maxi fuses in the same box.
Note: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) activates the relays by "reading" a signal from the engine temperature sensor. A malfunction in this system will show up as a fault code P0117 or P0118 and the fans will not operate properly
So there's your answer, hopefully. A bad relay (or bad connection) from the relay labeled #2, and the fan with the white wire.
