Thanks again Maniac, I was looking at the Fel-Pro gaskets kits on rockauto.com, they have two different sets. Do you mean the 'severe duty' gasket set? What brand did you replace yours with?

Thanks!

Easiest thing to do is shoot RockAuto an e-mail to verify which one is aluminum. They will respond rather quickly with all the info you need.

Not sure if your engine is equipped with it but some GM engines actually have a coolant passage to cool the EGR valve. The upper plastic intake can actually crack and cause coolant to get into the oil.

Hmmm..... I will have to check that possibility out. I know the engine has a coolant throttle body bypass to protect against parts freezing. I have a 2001 with the 3.4 engine. I have zero white smoke from the exhaust but antifreeze is getting into the crankcase somehow.

Thanks for the info!

In terms of the 3100/3400, their is NO coolant flowing through or near the EGR (and the upper intake on those is cast aluminum).

In the 3800 Series II L36, the only coolant passages in the plastic upper intake are to just run coolant through a pocket/bypass in the throttle body (again, no coolant flows around the EGR). I have heard of those passages cracking like you mentioned.

Yeah my bad...I should proof read my post before posting. I was refering to the coolant passage you were talking about. When I posted the response I had just got home from work and just finished replacing an EGR cooler on a Cummins diesel. I must of had egr on the brain...LOL
