Coolant oil mixture

Coolant oil mixture
My boyfriend drives a 03 Monte Carlo LS 4cylinder 117,000 miles. Yesterday his car overheated and started smoking from the engine. We noticed that there is a hole in one of the hoses that lead to the engine. We later found out that the coolant was leaking into the oil. They are saying it could possibly cost about $1,800. Can someone please tell me does that cost sound about right? Has anyone had this happen to them, if so what had to be fixed?
Thanks!
Thanks!

His Monte is not a 4cylinder, No Monte is a 4 banger. If he has an LS, then he has a 3.4L V6. It sounds like he probably has a bad lower intake gasket, or a bad head gasket. Generally its about $1,000+ to replace either gasket. However, if he over heated it bad enough, his head might require some machining, which will raise the price some more.
The intake/ head gasket thing is a pretty common problem with the 3400 V6 engine. Once he gets it fixed, it should be ok.
Also, you obviously need to replace the blown radiator hose. Just keep in mind, if coolant is mixing with the oil, your problem is more than just a blown radiator hose...such as the head or intake gasket.
Good Luck.
