I'd think if you hit a pothole big enough to do that you would've known it. Must've been a faulty part.

I think it is CRAP myself...especially now that I have re-inspected the road. It was a POP, LIFT, Steering wheel droped, car shot to the left with me trying to cut the wheel and accelerate to change direction, but the car didn't... I hit the curb hard enough that I thought the air dams and front fender would be damaged (which is were I probably bent the control arm) and shot straight across again with me cutting the wheel and trying to accelerate it out... but again it didn't move and I didn't have control at all.

Two things... it happened so fast, and all I remember was fighting the wheel, turning it to one side then the other, I was on the shoulder before I knew it. I can BET YOU the ABUSE CHIP prevented me from doing what I know could have and should have brought the car into control. I can also tell you, the car LIFTED before it went left. I don't think, hitting a pothole would LIFT the car, AND I checked the section of road on my way home tonight, and thereare NO potholes in the area.

SO WHAT LIFTED, LIFTED my frontend I don't know, but SOMETHING DID! and SOMETHING Prevented my wheels from reacting or maybe they were turning but there was NO POWER to them BECAUSE OF THE ABUSE CHIP!!!

Now... I am going to take my car to another shop so I can put the car in the air and see all what was changed (new bolts, parts, etc.) and take pictures. If the suspension was repaired other than the control arm and I was charged, my company or not, I will have their butts. The techs and service writersdon't like me all that much because I given them hell lately (mostly over customer concerns and improper handling of them -- the way they talk to customers is incredibly bad at times). I also, would not put it pass them to charge me and send in the repair under warranty and double collect for the repair. Service Managers have been fired for this type of thing in the past.

After inpsecting the road... I am HOT! Something is not right about all this... and I am going to find out!

No... I probably bent the control arm on impact with the curb. But I thinking my boys replaced more parts, charging me, and filing for warranty money at the same time, thus making more money. Once I put the car in the air, I will be able to see what was done and what was replaced. THERE BETTER NOT BE ANY OTHER PARTS REPLACED THAN THE CONTROL ARM!

any chance you caught a big chunk of ice that might of fallen off a truck? weather conditions right for it? or maybe just some other object....

it would explain alot, pop and lift... hit something, lets say by chance its wedged under the LF control arm. it would be a pop and lift... if there was something that lifted the car under the LF control arm, the tire would be lifted off the ground. with the tire off the ground hitting the accelerator would do nothing but make the tire spin in the air. the car would probly also head left because of the object draging/sliding on the left side. if the right front tire was able to put any power down while this was going on, i think it would want to make the car go left also.

on the way to, or by smacking the curb the object might of been dislodged, but by some manner the control arm was bent by now. so from that point on you would expect for it to drive poorly...

more questions than answers i guess... if it just failed, not being acted on by something else, it would seem more natural to have the car drop, rather than lift.

Sorry to hear about this, Craig. Just curious what the weather was like that day, could it have been black ice?

The only thing I can think that might cause something like you describe is a bad ball joint. I had one literally break in 2 on my 88 Grand Prix, it caused the tire to turn sideways 90 degrees. I was lucky that night, too. I was only doing 25 mph in a curve, and she just slid to a stop about 5 feet onto the grass. I wasn't driving that car anywhere after that, though.

The first thing the mechanic who looked at it asked me was "What did you hit?". He couldn't believe it just broke like that.

man... and i thought the other day when i DID hit a big ole pot hole and it LITERALLY broke the tire off the bead of the rim and sent my car careening toward the curb, luckily for me, its rearwheel and there is no chips to make it so i can't control anything so i mashed the gas and got the back end behind the front again and got it straightened out... i had to park on private property and walk home tho... luckily the people were nice and didn't call to have my car towed... THANK GOD. So i took the car to zolemans the next day and low and behold... i broke a stud... and then the guy changing my tire torqued one down to hard and broke ANOTHER stud... man, that guys day had to suck...but they were so nice about it.. they thought i was gonna FREAK AND BE PISSED!! they started apologizing RIGHT away... i cut them off and was like dont worry about it guys, as long as you replace the one u broke its kool... and they replaced BOTH for NO CHARGE!!! Zoleman will have all my business from now on as long as i need service
