Opinion Needed: I bought an 02 Monte Carlo and the keys were lost/stolen, how can I fix?
There is somewhere in the forums (not sure where) that does go through the steps to drill and remove the ignition switch from the wire harness. It is the only way to remove the switch if the key no longer works(in my case) or they are lost. It's not super difficult just need to take your time. I'll see if I can find my old key tumbler so you can see where to drill through Good luck
As Chibi said take you VIN # to the dealer and they can get a Key made to fit the Car. They will need to send off to GM to the get the thing made. Then everything stays the same. When you mess with it you create more headaches for yourself.

I agree, VIN and a trip to the dealer (bring your title for proof of ownership). Odds are they can re-produce the key right there (I know people that have had that done). Quicker, easier in my book.
If there is still a problem, as Jeff mentioned, it's not too tough to remove the lock cylinder and just change it out.
