Default comparision photos with HIR (yes R) lights

well theres some old tech out there thats new to me. its called HIR. i took some pics so others can see a comparision of the bulbs.

left standard bulb, right HIR

left side standard bulb, right phillips hi-vis +30%

left HIR, right phillips hi-vis +30%

both phillips hi-vis +30%

fog lights, 880 left, 893 right

WARNING - the jury is actually still out on the 893 bulbs, for all i know they'll melt something, or everything.

What worked for me was after you post the thumbnail image, click the thumb. Then right click on the image and copy. Edit the original post, right clickand paste the copied image into the post. Click ok to post the edited message.

These aftermarket bulbs, are they plug n play? No ballast to add or flux capacitors?

plug n play. hir = halogen infrared reflecting. basicly, they're more efficeint bulbs. the bulbs have an almost clear coating in them that reflects some or most of the infrared light that all halogens make, keeps the filiment hotter, so less energy is used heating the element, so using the same wattage you can produce more light.

they are, almost but not quite plug n play. you have to trimone of the plastic tabs on the base to make them fit. i spent less than a minute with side cutters modifying the lights to make them work.

the bulb number is 9012 = 9006 and if you want high beams 9011 = 9005. you can buy em off ebay, just search for "9012 HIR" they sell the 9011 also. i hear you can also buy the 9012, not 9011, from john deere dealers, they use them on thier 9000 series tractors.
