x2 on you shouldn't have a 3800 in a 96- the only factory engine options were a 3100 and 3.4 dohc. If you have a 3800, it has been swapped.

As for a top swap thread- search for 'top swap', but I haven't found any thread that I really link people to that has a good walkthrough. Basically, you can tear the engine down to the block (obviously leave the block on down alone, and leave the front timing cover on)- following normal repair manual instructions; then put it all back together with the new parts. The only bad thing is, you need to know what parts to get, as the list is a little long, but you should be able to find that via searching.

Then maybe I am misunderstanding something. It says its a 3.4 DOHC 3800.

Post a pic please, where does it say that?

Since the 3800 was not a DOHC, that means it is a 3.4 dohc, which came in the 96 montes. Easy way to tell- when you pop your hood, if you see this:

its a 3800

If you see this:

it's a 3.4 dohc

Figured id throw in my $0.02 . A gtp pcm fits perfect n a 98z34 pcm tray. I figured out a CHEAP way to extend the fuel lines without cutting on the car. Find a donor car and cut the fuel line at the metal part leaving at least 2-3". Take a spare 3.1 fuel rail and cut off at the quick connect again leaving least 2-3". At the parts store grab two steel brake line quick spices, 1 3/9 and 1 5/16. Spice the corresponding rail end to the corresponding fuel line and poof there you go, clicp in adapters for a total of about $10

the 3800 series 2 not supercharged is a l36. i dont see you getting low 13's on a N/A car you will need either a supercharger or turbo. possibly nitrous could get you there but not sure on that.

the l67 is a 3800 series 2 supercharged fyi

Default Need help. please if anyone can

I'm new to this community. Nice to be here. I would like some help if anyone can. I own a 98 z34 3800 series 2, about a month ago it took a crap on me upon further inspection it had thrown a rod bearing. After countless efforts to try and repair the damage with no luck. I caved in and found a SC 3800 out of a 99 regal gs. My question and it may have been answered and I'm just retarded. Is what do I need and can use off my old 3800 n/a engine and from my car to complete my swap.. thank you in advance for any help that comes my way.
