Default Torque Converter or Trans????

GM WORLD. Quick question; I'm having problems wit my 2001 SS 3.8 when I come to a complete stop n try to take off the car hesitates and stutters for a few seconds (till I give it enough power) then it kicks in and drives regular once it hits 2nd gear. At first I thought it was my Trans but after research I'm leaning more to the torque converter? Wondering if anybody else had a similar problem and how are they anyways I can know for sure it's the torque converter? Thanks in advance

My '04 Monte (3800) and wife's '05 Impala (3400), both with a 4T65 trans sometimes hesitates from a dead stop. Since some tuning changes on my Monte and adding WBS upper radiator mounts, it has not done that in a long time. I want to explore more tuning options to resolve this in the Impala (but have not had the time to log the data needed).

I don't think its a converter. Sounds like low fluid pressure do to a minor clog in valve body or filter maybe. Once it revs up it mkles more pressure and let's it move. Could be a pressure solenoid as well.

Do you get hard shifts? have a shop run a scan for you on transmission specific codes and look for p1811 code. If you have no CEL and no slipage with a hard shift and that stutter it could be the PCS. If your just having trouble getting out of first gear and taking off, your cattylic converter could be plugged. How recently was your transmission serviced? if it was recently was their shavings in the fluid/filter? If it hasnt been serviced recently and your getting the hard shifting then have it serviced and have them crack open the filter and look for shavings. If you are just getting a loss of power have an exhaust shop do a blow through on the cat to check for a blockage. The first thing i suggest is getting a transmission shop to check your codes for you and let us know what they find.
