what happened that you need a torque converter for it already?? usually they're just dealer item's, i couldn't find the acdelco # though

An after market torque converter is designed to change your stall rpm's.

Yes this helps you go faster in the 1/4.

But you are better off ifyou have posi or limited slip and sticky tires.

What happens is your standard torque converter on your automatic trans hooks up at about 1k to 1.5k rpms because of the centrifugal clutch.

An after market torque converter can be ordered with a clutch that hooks up at 1.8k, 2k, 2.5k, 3k, 3.5k, 4k or even more rpm's. This allows you to get your engines revs up before launch.

There's tons of info on the web if you google "high stall torque converter."
