Default should i swap my engine

about 11/2ago i got my license and just like evry other teenager was saving up for a car i was planing to buy one this coming up march so i wouldnt have to woory about ruining it in the winter. but to my surprise my step dad bought me a 2004 black monty carlo ss. i loved this car its amazing. and in the year that i had saved up i had almost 11,000 saved up including money i had from before. so i decided to buy parts for my car a clarion deck and 2 12" kenwoods with a amp, 18" black rims with chromo lip, and now after having the car almost a year i started thinking about swaping my engine and making the car rwd. so could i get a v8 swap a tranny swap rwd for under $6,000.

$6000 for the parts and $60,000 worth of labor. You will have to do some major modifications to the floor pan for the drive shaft, and you will need to come up with a way to mount the rear axel. Maybe if you were adventurous you could use a corvette IRS setup so that you could keep the stock rear suspension (maybe?). You will have to go with all new guages so you will need to do some fabricating in on the dash. Sounds like it would be a fun project and would be awesome when done.

I hate to say it, but do you honestly have the skills to do the fabrication required for this? I mean, you can't be more than 18 years old (thats not saying that no 18 year old could pull it off).

But I'm just saying it runs people ~$2000 to swap an L67, and thats literally a bolt in/plug in engine. A guy on MM had almost $10,000 into a FWD cadillac N* V8 swap w/ a 4t80. Not to mention people who do the drop in L67 swap frequently have bugs and kinks to work out, some of which make the car undriveable, I can't even imagine the possible problems with a complete powertrain transformation.

I really don't see you pulling off a full RWD V8 swap for much less than that, unless you can weld/fabricate etc. Plus, you really should have some sort of stress modelling program because you're totally changing the stresses on the chassis pushing from the rear- so you'll need a lot of support back there (the stock rear is barely more than rolling stock to support the back of the car, and do a small fraction of braking).

Honestly, maybe you should think about selling the car and buying something RWD off the bat. Or possibly buying a wrecked RWD car (maybe something with a full frame to maintain rigidity)- taking your body and mating your body to its chassis; or just doing a full tube frame and putting your body on that?

What everybody is trying to say is:

You can't convert the front-wheeler to a rear-wheeler without doing so much work that it makes the project infeasible.
Take your 6-Grand and put it in the bank.
Start saving and get the down money for a new ride with everything your heart desires. A CTS-V Caddie might be nice!
Then there's that RWD new Sedan that Porsche is getting ready to launch.

A Classic Chevy Chevelle with every speed mod you can think of might be available in Hemmings. Take a peek when your at the book store!

For what's its worth, the concept car was a RWD.

I don't think you could touch it for 6 g's though.

Or put the $6000 in mods and have a better car.

Swap the front for the rear bumper, move the drive controls to the rear of the vehicle, and swap the gears around. You have yourselfa RWD car. That would be the cheapest route IMHO. LOL

Seriously though, if you are looking for power, swap for the 3800 SC, or do a top swap, and HD your tranny. You'll save much more money, and get can just as much power.

If you really have 6K to spend, you can spend 4 of it on a cartuning turbo (www.cartuning.ca), intercooled with meth injection, without any engine modifications, and you'll blow away any stock LS1 on the planet.
