Default BIG problem with my 2003 monte

All of a sudden the air conditioner stopped working, along with the temp guage, and after shutting the car off the fans keep running for a minute or two, it dont seem to be overheating, and runs fine. I checked the coolant and its fine..The temp guage does not even move, i changed the thermostat earlier in the year and theres no pressure on the hose..Im just trying to see if its something that might not be to serious that i can fix on my own befor taking it in?? Its not a SS its just a six cylinder..

What does the gauge stay at? Is it stuck on cold, hot, or somewhere in between? When you first turn the key on, does the gauge sweep back in forth during the bulb check?

The guage does not move when the egnition is turned on, and is stuck in the cold position..And even when the car is cold if i turn on the ignition and turn it off the fans will come on for a short time, and im worried that the fans are running the whole time the car is running...

There's a sensor that tells the car how hot the engine is. That sensor could be broken / disconnected and as a safety precaution the fans are staying on at shut off just incase the engine is warmer than usual?

Have you changed your coolant temp sensor? That could be the problem.

Also, both the LS and SS had v6's. If you're saying it's not the SS I'm assuming you have the 3400 v6, correct?

If you know someone with a car scanner, could plug in and see what temp the ECM thinks the car is or is not at.... Might help shed light on the subject.

I'm be inclined to agree/support the possiblity of a bad temp sensor (or failed wiring). That would explain no change in the read out on the gauge.

OH - if I recall, then the car is started, all the needles should cycle from from one side and then the other rest at the correct reading. If I am correct, make sure the needle for the temp guage cycles with the rest of them.
