sounds like converter lockup your feeling which is normal to an extent. it shouldnt be horrible but when cruising it should lockup (rpm's lower) to keep ease on the trans, better gas milage, and keep the trans cool and then as soon as you let off the gas or lay into the throttle it should unlock (rpm's raise)

Okay, that's exactly what it does. When I give it a good amount of love or let off the gas the rpms raise. I just thought it was weird that it'd go down to around 1200 rpms in 4th at around 45 mph. But I figured it was just me being paranoid because I've had it for only five days, and I haven't owned an automatic in years and even that was a 19 year old tranny. Thanks for putting my mind to ease!

i wouldnt really worry about it. dont forget the car has no gearing to it, and youre cruising in overdrive at a low rate of speed. kind of like driving a 6spd stick in 6th at 45mph.

That's exactly what it feels like, lol. Also, is it normal to get a mild jolt when going into R or D? There isn't any slippage or slam, just a minor jolt.

Lower mounts could be starting to go.

That normal at 54,000 miles? Transmissions are not my area.

Just the mount that holds the transmission and engine. Stuff goes bad over time, not necessarily mileage.

I'll have to check that our. I remember having to replace my mounts on my RX8 at 59k.
