Default 3rd Gear

Hey all, I just bought a 2005 SS yesterday. So far I am absolutely loving it, in fact I even took the day off from work today just to enjoy it some more. I took it and had the brakes/tires/suspension inspected and they're all top-notch. After getting in a little more time behind the wheel, I really only have one concern so far. I feel as if 3rd is fighting with me. It shifts into third at aroud 30 mph and bogs down. Of course, if I just push the pedal down a little more it'll down shift but then it starts to fall back into 3rd. Is this normal? It only has 53,000 miles on it and even under full acceleration none of the gears squeek during shifts. And it doesn't do any heavy clunking into park/reverse/drive. I'm pretty sure I'm just being paranoid, and I haven't driven an automatic since my '93 Cherokee (lol). Any advice is welcome, thanks all!

How is the trans fluid? Make sure it's topped off for starters

No metallic flakes or anything on the dipstick right?

Could you make a video of the sound you're hearing?

I didn't see any flakes. I'm not hearing any sound, the car just feels boggy in 3rd. It always wants to be in 3rd.

Here's a picture of my tranny stick, no pun intended.

I misread what you wrote, I thought you said it squeaks lol my bad.

How is the back pressure on the cat? It's weird that it's only 3rd gear.

It doesn't want to shift down to 4th when you lay off the gas?

Actually now that I've gotten more driving in since my last post it's fourth too. If I keep the car in 2 then it's great but 3 or D it's always wanting to go higher gears and bogs. So is that a cause of the backed up cat? That'd be a lot more relieving than my transmission. Because the tranny feels so good minus that part.

So I just got off of a 180 mile drive with my buddy and his 2006 GTO. It's the weirdest thing, if I'm going down the freeway doing 70 and I have it in 3 then I have no problems but if I put it into D then it keeps going into 4th and bogging the RPMs down to like 1500 even if I press on the accelerator a little bit. But as soon as I release the pedal the rpms go back up a little. Same thing with 3rd if I'm doing city driving, but keeping it in 2 has no issues. But if you mash on the pedal it gets up and goes and through every gear perfect, it is just weird.

Could it be that I put 92 octane in it? It didn't do it on my way from the dealership to the gas station, but after I filled up. Just realized that. Maybe it has been running on lower octane so the PCM is going what the hell?

i dont think that the gas has anything to do with it. perhaps what youre experiencing is the converter locking and unlocking.
