I would recommend 5/16". You dont want to go any bigger than necessary. Here are my wheels with 5/16" spacers:

Really appreciate the visual...... Would stock 6th gen rims be the same specs (off-set), would I use the same stock studs?... Thanks,

what you just said helps me a lot. im looking for a set of wheels that stick to the 40 mm offset up front running a 17 by 7 wheel and 225/50 zr 17 and a 20 mm or less offset in back and 235/55 zr 17 in back.

i just want to take a little rubber of the diameter going with 17 inch stuff and widen the rear track. i dont want to get near the fender lips or the struts and wheel tubs.

im curious what size tires you get away with because you're having the same kind of fun that puts a big grin on my face.
