Separating tail lights
Alright guys I have a question. has anyone on here ever taken the lens off of the tail lights? My old one has a bad seal so I was trying to see how to take it apart without completely destroying it so I could seal it back up in case the one that is on the monte now gets ruined. Any help would be great! Thanks guys!
Wow I really need to stop watching TV when I post stuff lol I spelled separating wrong in the title! hahah! Oh geez

I did my headlights, so i could tell ya how to do it, but I have no idea if the taillights are sealed the same as the headlights. I'll take a gander tonight and let ya know if it'd be the same process.

I don't know if this works with the glue used to hold the headlights/taillights together, but I know some of the old Palm Pilots (pre-dating Smart Phones), the shells were glued together (thus if the battery went dead, you hand to brake the glue bond).
I talked to a guy that serviced the Palm Pilots and he said to open those ones up, he gently used a heat gun and slowly and gently pried them open. That might be what you have to do in your situation. BUT, you will want to be careful what glue you use to reseal. Some dry with a yellowish tint. You need something that dries crystal clear and won't discolor in sunlight.

i checked out the tails on the 06 and they don't look like they are glued together like the headlights are. none-the-less if you're determined to do it, throw em in the oven at 200 for 2-3 minutes and gently start prying. Just don't let them get too hot too quickly, it'll start to bubble/separate the lense and if you look at it at a certain angle it'll look crappy.
FYI--i'd stay away from the heat gun. I've used them before but never on something like this. They concentrate a lot of heat in front of the gun, so if the plastic (lens) expands, it'll expand much more in one spot than say on the other side of the housing. You may not have a problem using it, but if you use the oven method, it'll heat the whole thing evenly, and cool evenly as well. IMO--like i said, i've never used a heat gun on something like this before
