I understand that. I am the same what but not with paintwork. I see flaws way too easy from working with cars for so many years so I leave that up to the pros for my own stuff

I want to paint my rocker panels to match the car at some point in time. Just thought I'd mention that the rocker panels between the SS's (which all you guys have) and the LTs (which I have) are made of different materials.

SS rocker panel are made of the same material as the bumpers, ie rubbery plastic don't know technical name
LT rocker panels are charcoal in color and made of pure plastic

I talked to a body shop and he said he could paint my plastic but said the results would be subpar and suggested buying the rocker panel from the SS and have those painted due to the different material. Was trying to find the gm part #s to see if the difference in material was mentioned but all I could find called the LT trim "Charcoal" and the SS "paint to match".

 

You can paint the plastic parts just the same as any other part. You just need to smooth it out first. Your body man just sounds like he doesn't want to go through the work.
