HIDs vs CCFLs
#11
I bought a pair of Philips CrystalVision Ultras to replace the stock H11 low beams. They put out a lot whiter and cleaner light than the stock halogens, and give a little more distance and side-to-side view on the road. I haven't done anything with the high beams or fog lights yet. Only question now is how long these bulbs will last.
I tried taking some photos with one stock and one CrystalVision Ultra installed, but most of them didn't come out very good (either I suck or my camera sucks at taking night shots). The stock bulb is on the left, and the new one on the right in the photos.

They look great, but you read correctly. They aren't very good headlights. They fog, the CCFL ring goes out, the beam adjuster breaks easily, and the headlight bulb is replaced with an H3 size that is actually meant for a fog light. So your light output is also diminished.

In the summer I work for a community theatre group doing lights and all the stage lights are halogen like the Silverstar Ultras so I learned this quickly when I touched one before installing it in the stage lamp and the damn thing blew up on me.

Get HIDs, honestly I can barely see the road now when I switch back to a car with regular headlights. COnsidering a pair of silverstars are an overpriced $30 a pair, when you can get hids and the ballasts for $35.
