Hey Rick; thanks for starting this thread. I was wondering what other members did for work.
I currently don't work the 11 to 7 shift, I work second shift 4pm to 12:30 am. I have worked for Mickey Mouse since July of 2000. Mickey Mouse runs his house 24/7/365. When I first started working here I took a job as a front desk host. Here at Disney there are no employees. We are all cast members and we put on a huge show for our guests. I was the one that you met when you came to Disney's All Star Music Resort and checked into the hotel. I was the one who gave you your room keys, park tickets, took your money and my favorite part told you where to go. Lol. All the while I was doing this part I was looking for other parts to play that paid much better because working front desk I was making peanuts.
After about nine months I found out about Disney's engineering department and the apprenticeships they offered. I applied to the apprenticeship for A/C Plumbers and six months later I was in the apprenticeship. Thru many trials and tribulations I got to where I am today. In the almost twelve years I have been a part of the show I haved worked all three shifts and every day of the year. Some years I was fortunate to have the major holidays off and some years not. I currently play a part at Disney's Port Orleans Resort. My favorite place of them all. Thru the apprenticeship I have worked at EPCOT, Disney's Animal Kingdom Park, Disney's Hollywood Studios Park, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney's Pop Century Resort, Disney's Contemporary Resort, and Disney Institute. My job differed some at each one of those places but one thing remained constant. I am a problem solver when things don't work right. On any given day I can be working on electrical items, plumbing items, refrigeration systems, some of your favorite beer systems, freezers, stoves, dish machines, and everything else in a commercial kitchen. I can work on ice machines, pools, fountains, grouting floors and light carpentry. I have fixed kids baby carriages and also wheel chairs. I have worked on my mini-mini van, as well as golf carts. If it is on Disney property and it is mechanical there is a fair chance at some point I have or will work on it. My job is very diverse and interesting. Most days I really enjoy it. Most days I work back stage and the guests don't see me, but other days I am on stage and interacting with the guests. Where else could you stand and talk to some guests for an hour or more, get paid extremely well for this, and the boss walk by and have no issue with you shooting the bull on his time? That is the life of a working engineer at Disney. Oh and I forgot some nights I sit or drive around all night waiting for a service call. The sights around the resort are top notch and some times you see the totally unexpected.

Doing my fun job as a cashier from 330pm-12am or sometimes it's some other cOmbination of hours in that range. I prefer evenings/nights as I function better. I'm not a morning person at all lol and besides then I have all day to get other things done in daylight. Where as if you worked all day it would be dark and you'd never get other tasks done. An example is the workshop I did, work on that all day and go to work.

One thing I didn't metion was I got 10% for working over nights a t G.M. So when I worked 84 hrs a week. just in nightshift 10% that alone was damn near a 40 hr paycheck in it self. But those 12 hrs day( nights) were long at times. very long and 7 nights a week for months. 8 hrs a day was straight time. anything over 8 hrs was time and a 1/2. Sundays were double time. And if it was on a hoilday weekend triple time for Sun or monday. When ever the hoilday fell on. So say reg pay for 8 hrs work was $ 25.40. triple that that for each 10 or 12 hrs worked on a hoilday. Thats over $ 300.00 for one days pay. Then saturday was always time and 1/2. Not sure if any one here makes double time or time and 1/2 for over time. Or if you even get over time.

Hi Rick; I make the same wages as you did within a few cents. We have circumstances where the compny pays time and a half and double time. Mickey Mouse has gotten stingy in he later years. Lord knows there is plenty of work to do after hours but for some reason would rather pay an outside contractor more money than pay a few hours overtime. I think I might have had 20 hours overtime all year. I wouldn't mind about 8 hours OT a week. That would be sweet.

Hi "NightShifter's", yes I am a night shifter...Presently I work from 7 PM to 7 AM + at Ocean Supply Warehouses. I also live where I work & have a warehouse small apartment in a secure compound. (It's like a prison) I've been averaging
about 15+ hours a day/night 7 nights a week this year : ) I work in the warehouses from 7 PM until about 4-5 am & then go to the office & confirm orders & shipments (If I can, I jump on2 the MCF 2 play: ) I'm thankful to be working & making decent $'s.
I have a Super boss/owner 4-Sure...

I have about 1 more year of working double shifts & then my g/f will be starting her medical residency
We are giving `up to get to get to where we want to `be 4-Sure...We don't have any money, but we don't owe anyone either...

I've always worked day's & nights during my life, and they both have pluses & minuses...I miss working the boats with my BeachBum Friends...They work days @ the port unloading boats, but we stay in contact, but free time is a luxury 4-Sure...I also miss my grandfather & senior citizen friends. (I get homesick: )4-Real

Great thread Rick, I've enjoyed reading everyone's post(s).
Peace/Out from `Space

Where i work sundays used to be time and 1/2 but they've since changed that to just +$1.50 an hour for everyone in the store. After 8 hours everything is time and 1/2 and the same with holidays.
