Default How many here work the night shift ??

I got hooked on the night shift at General Motors. I was on days shift. When My boss asked me if I want to go on nights for a week for a special job they had to get out now. Told him I'd have to clear it with my wife 1st. Cause she's be home alone with the kids for 9 hrs. Did that for a week. Then came back to day shift. Then a month later they were putting a full shift on he came & asked me again. That started my 27 yrs on the night shift. After I retired I had a few odd jobs on day shift. It was alright. Traffic was the worst!!! Now I have a part time job to support my Chevelle & Monte Carlo habit . I work from 10:30 to 6:30 am. LOVE IT.. No traffic good people & less mangement. Anyone else ??

I used to work night shift, and it sucked. Had to work 7:30 PM to 6:00 AM Thursday-Sunday, an hour and twenty minute drive from home. I had no weekends lol

I've never worked on an overnight shift (3rd shift) like you have, but I've been working late afternoons and evenings, sometimes 'til 2 am or later off and on since 1992 (continually since 1999). Back in 2004 after I lost my job because of a change in ownership of our company, I got a job that required me to be at work by something like 6 or 6:30 am. That was really difficult for me to do having worked late hours for several years. I wasn't even used to being awake at that hour, let alone being at work! I didn't even last a week in that job.

Ya know When i started on the night shift . It wasn't that easy the 1st time around. But when I did it the 2nd time. I managed my time a lot better. Slept from 8am till 3 pm when the kids got home from school. Then after they went to bed I layed down for an hr or so. But when we started working all the overtime. Naps were out of the question. But when your raising a family of 6 4 kids & the wife & I. You learn how to handle it. When we worked 7 nights a week. it was easier then having a day off. Cause your system is used to that time slot. But that was cool. Cause we could work all the over time we wanted back then. So 10 to 12 hrs during the week. And 10 on saturday 8 on Sundays. Plus the overnite premium was 10%. So I was taking home a 40 pay check just with the 10 % prem. So that sort of makes up your mind. Of what's important and if you can handle it. Those pay checks were FREAKING FANTASTIC. I did that crap for yrs. And still fit in family times. Now days. I wouldn't even think about it. NO way pal. Even 8 hrs is too much now. But I only work to support my Hot Rods. if I sold both. I'd buy another Harley and then retire full time.
