i found out its not my monitor because i hooked my monitor up to my moms computer and it worked fine then i tried hers on mine and it was doing what mine did before. Then i tried pluging in the monitor to a different socket with no luck still the screen shakes.

what do you mean by bad memory?

i have 3 512's in my computer for memory i dont know if that has anything to do with it. Also my graphics card is an "ATi radeon express 200".

P.S. when it comes to computers i have no idea what means what so i have no idea were the video card would be and all that other stuff.

My first suggestion would be to remove the cover off your tower. Turn it off first. Then carefully vacuum and/or blow the dust out. Then make sure everything is plugged in properly. Such as cables, cards in slots, any chips in sockets, and so forth. If it still doesn't help, your power supply inside the tower may be going bad.

You also may want to lookand see if all your cooling fans are working too.

 

i am starting to think that it is the power supply because i took my computer and every thing into a different part of the house and pluged it in and it was still shaking. i tried the refresh rateit didn't do anything. i took all my memory cards out dusted and vacumed every thing and it still wash shaking so i think i am just going to have to take it into best buy on thursday.

if it is my power supply in the tower how much would that normally cost to get fixed? or is it something i could do on my own?

It's as simple as getting the right one. Simply unplug the any cables going to it, unscrew it from the chassis and swap in the new one. Bring the old one with you if your not sure which one you need.

 

I would doubt its the power supply. The graphics chipsetyou have is an onboard chipset, therefor it gets power through the motherboard. If it was the powersupply, that would mean that your CPU, and RAM are also getting the bad current, and since your computer is running normally, I would doubt the current is poor. Just out of curiosity, are you using DVI or VGA\Analogue? ummm... as far as the memory being bad, again your computer WOULD NOT RUN! You would get BSOD's and have lockups\no post and beeps on start-up. But to test, run memtest 86+, just google it, download, burn and pop it in and restart the computer and let it boot from it. Let it run a couple cycles. Next I would test the CPU, and do some stress testing... that will help to determine the cause of the problem. If it passes, the hardware should be ok, if not, I can direct you in the right direction to help diagnose it. Here are the links to programs you can run to help diagnose...

run those, and report back what happens. Make sure you back up, these are very stressful, so if something fails, you may not be able to get back on until you replace it.

 

Could be multiple things, the vga chipset on the motherboard could be going bad...I frequent a very good pc support forum, pcmech.com, you could post your problem there for more help and ideas.

 

Id say graphics card. what I would do, is see if you can borrow your familys computer and start swapping one part at a time. first change the graphics card, test, swap back if it still doesnt work. then, keep going with compatible parts!

 

The Radeon Xpress is the onboard video, he cant swap it out. he would have to put the card in, and then disable the onboard in the bios, and configure the new one.
