A friend of mine used to do Airbag service (replace air bags and repair air bag related damage, excluding glass). Replacing the air bag not hard, but for insurance reasons and such, it has to be done by a trained professional. I've heard of people cutting the bag and gluing pieces together.

The car is designed for the stuff to blow apart. It royally sucks the damage air bags do, but if it truly is protecting me from worse harm, let the car take it.

Now you can sometimes do a buy back on a car. Problem is it's not just replacing the air bag (some people argue if salvage air bags are good or bad to use). The other part is some of the air bag computer and sensor equipment is 1 time use. So that needs replaced. Then you need the system "reset" so it knows the air bag was serviced (I've seen some companies on the web that can do mail order service on that).

You have options. But none of them cheap or easy. And each with their own logistics.

Sucks to hear about your 05 - glad you weren't hurt bad. I also hope you can find a replacement for Tony.

First and most importantly, I'm glad you're gonna be okay.

But I'm surprised nobody asked you where the car is located. So they can go pick the Tony Stewart stuff out of it.

Sorry to hear about you're Monte Rita and a Stewart model! Major bummer I love the Stewart car I'd give anything for a Stewart Edition. Any thoughts of getting another Monte?

Thank you for all your input. I am really upset and angered by this whole airbag situation. I feel violated in a way. Please do not get me wrong, thankfully I only had bruises on my hands and a fat lip, and thank God my 16 year old daughter who was in the passenger seat was completely unharmed, but it is really upsetting to have to lose your car over the safety features.

I would love to get another Monte but not so easy to locate here on Long Island. Those who have them either care for them and do not want to part with them for a price I can afford or have not cared for them enough for me.

I am sure the salvage guy who took away my car had a party when he got my car back to the shop and started parting it out. Makes me sick.

I love the pictures you all have with your posts, your cars are gorgeous. I will miss mine.

Thank you all again for your help.

Rita
