Brand new 05 (leftover) monte in accident
Hey guys i just bought a brand new 05 monte LT 4 months ago, 2 months ago the car was in a major accident they had to replace the passanger fender door and quarter, the body shop did a great job with the car other than 2 things, when im driving and have the windows up it sounds like there is air coming into the car somewhere on the passanger side but alas i cant find the source of the air. the dealer body shop said what i may be hearing is air from the cabin air filter, but honestly i think i would have noticed it before as im a bit **** retentive about these things. so i guess my question is if anyone else has an 05 if they could roll the windows up and tell me if they hear anything that sounds like air coming in on the passanger side. it almost sounds like if i was driving a car without a full framed window and the window didnt seat correctly but i checked that. any help there would be appreciated.
Also the engine seems to have less power than it did before but there are no leaks/engine noises/anything. is it just my imaginiation or could the accident have caused something to get FUBAR in the motor
While im posting here has anyone else noticed a very faint whistle when they push the breaks on the car almost if there is a vaccum leak it has happened since i got the car and the dealership said it was normal.
Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated
Thanks a million
Marc

Hello Marc, welcome to MCF!!!
Sounds like the hit may have thrown the door out of spec and like you said the door seal is not flush with the body or the seal is damaged. A friend of mine had a similar incident with a Ford van, they ended up replacing the door seal.

yah its gotta be the door out of alignment for the wind, because i have no noise coming in through the cabin air filter...your body shop probably just didn't catch that...but they should still fix it
and as for the engine, maybe its just in your head, maybe since you got in an accident you dont like the car anymore so you think its going slower...thats all i can think, an accident shouldn't knock the performance down on the engine. unless it got hit somwhere thats gonna restrict something...and for that to happen it would have to get hit really really hard

What's up, Marc? Welcome to the "certified *****-free" Unofficial Monte Carlo Forum.
I also own an '05 LT. Bought it new. Never heard any type of noise from the passenger window. I actually find the cabin quite quiet. I definitely agre with Montejass...I experienced this same thing with my first car and subsequent first accident. Using a thicker weather seal strip fixed the problem for me. I don't know how badly your symmetry is thrown off, but try it and see if it works. I went through many different sizes in search of the right size.
Good luck! I love my '05 and wish the same for you.

Thanks guys i really appreciate it, also can anyone give me any input on the "problem" im having with the whistiling brakes? Also if it was the door seal wouldnt i be able to feel air come in ? not second guessing im just curious
Thanks a million guys
Oh by the way, are there any simple/cheap/free ways to get any more HP out of the 3.8?

You may not feel any air inside the cabin from a door alignment problem. Could be just enough to cause the high-pitched noise.
You can test your seal by:
Take a sheet of paper and cut off a 2-3 inch strip
Place the strip in between the door and frame, close the door and pull the paper out
Test multiple areas of the door for inconstancy in snugness

here is another test for you to do
Kind of messy but works
take some kind of cheap deoderant the stuff that is like chalk!
then rub it on the door seal real heavy. then shut your door normal. then open it and check to see if you can see it all the way around the door where the seal is. if you can your good to go.
Also our cars have some foam seler in the fender you can see if if you open up the door and look threw the back side of the fender see if it there and if so check to see it is right or in there tight enough to stop the wind noise. if it is in there in a funny position it will allow air to pass and could cause some noise also.
as far as the brakes no i dont have a sound in mine when hitting the peddel but you have some vac. hoses you might chek to make sure they are all in place and tight in there. and on the brake booster. that would be the only thing i could think of. in the acc. you hit the peddel really hard probbly harder then you think and it is possibel you could have streached a seal or have one that is weak causeing the noise.

Can you tell from which side the sound is coming? The only fluke I have experienced with my monte was the front brakes. I had to have them changed twice in a year due to an unbalanced caliper. There was abnormal wear on the inside brake pad. How many miles to you have on it? This problem started for me at around 9K miles. The dealership took care of it both times and corrected the problem. No issues since.
Also...the forward-most part of the dash (where the vents are) is held in with plastic clips for the '05. As you drive over coarse road, the vibration will cause them to snap (it'll sound like rocks hitting the windshield) and you will see the edge facing you start to lift up. That will have to be addressed by the dealership. That is, if it hasn't already happened and you didn't notice that your dash is sticking up.
