Hi, My name is Daniel I recentley purchased a 2002 SS 193,000 miles from a one owner, recently I have been having problems with the vehicle. First problem is that the key wont go all the way to off position, it is just past the off position to the right of it, the car stays on and my battery dies out, the wierd thing about it is that i can pull the key out while it is in this position and it will stay on till my battery dies. Second issue I am having is that the gear shifter button is coming out of the gear shifter and the actual shifter can shift from park to any postion with the key inserted in any position or even without the key even inserted. the shifting is reading correctly if its in park it will be in park but i dont have to press brake to shift or nothing, im not sure if both problems are related but if anyone has had same kind of issues im trying to fix myself any help with this would be awesome. thanks guys

 

I had the same problem with ignition. Had 2 replace 2x. No parts from manufacture though. Find the best place possible

 

Welcome to the Monte Carlo Forum Daniel I have seen several of the issues some of the owners have had with the ignition switch. Probably needs to be replaced I had a similar thing on my 2006 Pontiac Torrent the Garage replaced my Ingnition. Switch and no more problems It had to have a new key though.
