Those inspectors look more like refs..Times sure have changed. I guess you could say they really are a ref anyways. Is it race time yet? I changed my avatar since there are no Montes for me, I put the Monte up there to be in the group, LOL

How about a shot of Richard Petty's 1969 Torino Talladega being inspected before the Daytona 500 of the same year?

Checkout that body template!
It looks like a dbl buck saw with no teeth.
Can you just imagine the BS they could get away with back then?
I think for the Daytona 500 they mandate them (NASCAR officials) to wear the uniforms they wore back then.
Nice Pic Duane Thanks!

Laugh it up, NASCAR used variants of those templates until the COT and the new "claw" they made to inspect it. Those "templates" just left too much play room.

Happy Sunday Race day, Everyone!!!!

In honor of Race Day, I will show THREE Classic NASCAR Photos of the Day:

First off, here is a Don Hunter photo of Richard Petty in Daytona, 1973. Did anyone else know he once had a Fumanchoo going on?

Second, here is a shot of AJ Foyt driving Banjo Matthews #27 Ford Torino in 1968 at Daytona. It comes from a series of negatives now owned by a cat named Ingo Giske.

1) Yes I remember his Fumanchu... 1 of the first things I remember as a driver later discovering who he was....(IS)

2) Banjo Matthews... Now theres a name that was Mentioned a lot back then!

3) The "winged warriors" certainly dwarfed those torino's montego's etc!..
They looked Huge against the "standard" stock car for sure!

Just think guys... in about a week, I will have up the first rundown of the 2013 season and the third year of MCF NASCAR Fantasy!!!!

Seems like time has flown to me....

Anyhow, here is your classic NASCAR Photo of the Day!!

This comes from a negative owned by Ingo Giske. It was from the 1968 Daytona 500, and it is Dr. Don Tarr driving what I believe is a 1967 Chevelle!

GM had a general ban on racing for its divisions at the time... but that didn't stop you from buying and building one yourself if you wanted to, you just wouldn't get support from GM and Chevrolet.
