That must have made tandem racing very hard - y'know with Peblo hittin' all the jet dryers and stuff...
Brent you hit it right on the head pueblos a disasterious partner for Jamie Mac!
Maybe this season...when there under caution...Theyll red flag pueblo when the Jet dryers are out !ahahahahahahaha

Yes Duane I know thats not a cup race Daaaaa.

It didn't work out for AJ allmendinger who won last year.... Bowyer is running a Ferrari, McMurray a BMW for Ganassi, Ambrose is on a team with Allmendinger driving that car that won last year....

Classic NASCAR Photo of the Day:

How about a little bit of Daytona Beach Road Course action!!!!????

NASCAR had a "convertible division" that fizzled out and later sort of turned into a "sportsman division" which then became the "Busch Grand National" then the "Busch series" and then the "Nationwide Series."

I sometimes joke that this picture was taken before safety.

Photo appears in Greg Fielden's NASCAR Chronicle.

Classic NASCAR Photo of the Day: Here is Richard Petty, some ladies, and the big guys is Andy Grannatelli, all celebrating a Daytona 500 win!!!

Andy Granatelli worked for STP and was the guy who made the Petty-STP deal come together. He was also a bit of a goober apparently.

Rough old fellow, admittiedly. He looks he was driving hte car himself.

Classic NASCAR Photo of the Day: Pete Hamilton, the underdog, won the 1970 Daytona 500!

Hamilton was the 1968 Rookie of the Year and struggled to find a good ride. In 1970, with the Petty's returning to Plymouth, part of the deal to get him from Ford was giving him the funding and supplies to field a second car on the major races. To drive this car, Pete Hamilton was hired by the Petty's to drive the #40 Superbird over the course of the 1970 season at selected NASCAR events.

In teh 1970 Daytona 500, Richard Petty blew an engine within the first few laps and retired from the event. Many thought Petty would extract Hamilton from his car in a pit stop and take it over, but Petty said he promised Hamilton the car no matter what, and sat on the pit box to act as crew chief during the race.

As things went on, David Pearson was leading the race by a mile (literally) and Hamilton was about the only other car on the lead lap. A late race engine detonation brought hte cars together in the pits, and Pearson took two tires along with Hamilton. However, Petty called Hamilton back in, knowing he had nothing for Pearson on two tires, but hoping 4 would do the trick. Hamilton went back out and passed Pearson with just 3-7 laps remaining.

Photo released by Daytona International Speedway on their FAcebook page on Pete Hamiltons birthday.

Added trivia: Pete Hamilton also won Talladega later that season in one of the first ever live broadcasts of a NASCAR race. His performance was so stunning that then President of the United States, Richard Nixon, sent him a letter of congratulations.

Classic NASCAR Photo of the Day: This is Pete Hamilton in the pits in his Superbird, in the same story recounted above.

Considering how few people are in the grandstands, this is either lat ein the race and a lot of people left, or during the Twin 125 race.

I believe it's a Don Hunter photo....
