Tall valve covers allow for more rocker arm and valve train clearance. Some people like the look of them more as well.

If your planning to mod the engine with head work etc get tall ones. If your planning on leaving it stock pick what you feel looks better.

If your gonna buy a pair of aftermarket valve covers beware of thin stamped ones. The flanges warp and bend and leak. If your set on a different set to have before all your upgrades either go ahead and get the set you wanna have in the end or look for a good used set on craigslist, racing junk, swap meet, ect. itll save money and hassell

If you don't have stud girdles (that require a taller valve cover for clearance) I would stick with the stock valve cover height. When the oil squirts from the end of the rocker it hits the underside of the cover and drips to lubricate the fulcrum point of the rocker. The taller covers don't allow for this and the result is excessive wear of the studs. I have seen more then one engine with tall valve covers (and stock valve train height) that this has happened to. Just something to keep in mind when it comes time to buy some covers...
