Default Tune Up Time!!!

This weekend I am going to bust under the hood and do a massive tune up. I am going to be replacing the plugs, wires, pcv valve, fuel filter. I am going to remove the throttle body and clean thouroughly, and clean MAF. I am going to run sea foam through the vacum line into the system and clean it all out. I am not changing the air filter since it is good, and I am adding a COI in the next week or so. Is there anything else that you guys would suggest that may help. I am doing this becuase for some reason it is only getting 20-22 MPG

I think the montes was only suppose to get 18-25 mpg if im not mistaken? I think that's what KBB says, but im a firm believer in sea foam and Marvel Mystery Oil,when my socket wrenches start getting rough to turn or catching I let them soak in MMO and it works great to make them turn easier

I would also recommend getting some contact cleaner and cleaning any sensors along the way so you don't have any problems in the future with dirty connectors

Thanks guys!!! I also love Sea Foam and MMO. I have been using MMO for years. Every oil change I replace half a quart of oil with MMO. I sometimes even put 8 ounces in with a full talk of gas.

I have seen some improvement with a K/N filter, I also use in the engine dura-lube. But the best thing I have found to get just a little more mileage is the fuel additive and injector cleaner from, Lucas Oil. Sometimes you have to weigh the cost against the results and the injector cleaner just costs a bit more.

I have a Pontiac Torrent and it has the 3400 motor and if I add that it will up the mileage about 3mpg. I have not used it in the Monte yet but I intend too.

Also if your car is the Pace Car version or an SS they are geared a bit more for performance than economy.

It is also amazing how tires will help with gas mileage too. That same Pontiac had the original tires on it. I put Michelins on the thing and that helped about 2mpg.

tires do help a lot, check the tires to make sure they have the right pressure that helps a lot with mpg

and for the injector cleaner I always used Lucas twice a month with fill-ups and I could actually tell a gain in mpg over time

FYI

Rule of thumb on the mileage. When you get the opportunity to take the Car out on the Hwy. at 75 miles per hour, check your Tach. If the RPM's are under 2K or near 1800 then this car will get good gas mileage. If you are running 28K on up to 32K you are going to be getting the 22 to 28 mpg. more like the lower side. Just the way they are geared.
