4th Gen ('81-'88): Steering column issues
I bought an 86 monte carlo ss not knowing much about the history of the vehicle. It did not come with keys and the ignition was stuck in the auxiliary position and could only turn forward from there. Turning the ignition cylinder forward would only turn the power on and from there the previous owner had a push button start. I started with replacing to ignition cylinder but the cylinder still wouldn't turn to the off position. I then rotated the shift bowl on the steering column to the left and that allowed me to turn the ignition to off position and remove the keys. Now the steering wheel is locked and the ignition will not rotate in any direction.
If anyone has any knowledge as to what is should be tearing into next it would be greatly appreciated! The car has floor shift and is a tilt column
