Ignition problems at the key...
up until today (Nov 6) car starts up just fine, but it decided to throw yet another mechanical problem my way, this time the one place i hate messing with, the steering column. i turn the key on, lights and everything comes on(every light in the house is on) normally when you turn the key all the way, the car starts right? (duh) but here's what happened: key turned all the way forward, and stayed there instead of springing back like its supposed to after the starter has done its thing.
i can start the car by turning the key on and jumping the terminals on the starter(front wheel drive, starter is just down the front of compartment) BUT the ignition has to be just right, so im guessing its the switch? but yet the key does not spring back the 1/8 turn like when your turning over the engine.
found out it starts with a screw driver as well when i was messing with it.
I bought the car as-is from dealership still making payments though...
So what would be ya'lls opinion? about what needs to be replaced or suggestions. has brand new battery, engine runs fine but kicks a bit when the automatic is shifting itself through the gears. Main issue im working on is this stupid ignition switch/cylinder issue of which is causing the problem if anyone knows, or how i take the column apart that's around the key ignition and turn signals Ect. ignition switch is $55 and the cylinder with key is $35 from O'Reilly's, Any tips on taking the column apart would be appreciated, as usual trying to google it just isn't working...
