Default 98 no start ignition question

I've been looking and have seen info regarding procedure to reset passlock etc...

What I'm looking for is a good troubleshoot guide to do this for a 98, this model has the ignition in the steering column. everything I've seen so far concerns dash mounted ignition systems.

I'm going at this blind and someone else has already tinkered with it and supposedly replaced a "sensor". Whether this is supposed to be the passlock sensor or not, I have no idea.

So can someone give me a good run down of systematically tracking this problem? Starting say if it could possibly be a fuse, then ignition/starter module, then passlock sensor, then ignition sensor.

I don't have a problem doing the job, just need a little guidance, especially if I have to change the ignition cylinder in the column. I took a quick look over of the car and it didn't appear that I could get to the ignition without pulling the steering wheel. So I'd like to get an orderly approach, up to and including the pulling of the wheel to replace the switch (if necessary).

Thanks in advance!!!

All 5th gen Montes had ignitions in the steering column, but that doesn't matter. To be honest, I'm thinking that you need to replace the key. But check the fuses first.
