problems accelerating and a whistling noise
1st problem was the acceleration or the Idle its not driving like it was when I 1st bought it, it acts like it does not want to go but within a few minutes or with re-accelerating it starts to drive better got new tune-up, new fuel filter, changed the MAF and the problem is still there? So now there is a whistling noise only when accelerating can anyone point me in the right direction, Please and thank you I want my old monte back

I had the same problem with my 2001 ls. The whistling noise was from the catalytic converter because it was plugged (105,000 miles). After getting that replaced the car was back to normal. Note, if this needs to be replaced on your car make sure to get a quality converter. Mine was replaced with a 'generic' one and after 10,000 miles I started getting a check engine light saying it was operating below efficiency threshold. Replaced the o2 sensors and checked everything else that could cause it to throw that code and came to the conclusion the replacement was cheaply made. There are a handful of GM motors that are especially sensitive to the converter. One company, Eastern I think, actually markets a line of converters specifically for these motors. Hope this helps.
