I'm new to this forum, so I'm hoping someone can help me out, I've got a 2002 Monte, with 3400 engine, it recently started making a whistling noise. A friend of mine told me that its probably the manifold gasket, but someone else said its the head gasket. Has anyone else here, had this problem?

 

Does the whistling change with engine speed? Are there any CEL's? Notice any missing coolant or anything like that? I've never heard of a whistling head gasket. If the car whistles at idle try to find out what area on the engine it is coming from.

 

yeah, it doesnt start until 25mph, and its coming from in between the head and block. I can see a little sepage. It's the color of old antifreeze. What do you think.

 

Wow, could be a head gasket but must be REAL bad to cause a whistle. Best way to rule it out would be to do a compression check on the engine and/or a coolant pressure test. And I take it you are losing coolant?

 

Can it be mayb the transmission Gasket Seal????
