Evening all, here in Pa we have car inspections, my 2000 monte rocker panels iare rusting, pretty bad, just between the front of the door and wheelwell, have had her for 8 years she lives in the garage, washed and waxed weekly had her looked at by a autobody guy, says he can weld steel plate from front to back on the rocker panel for 1500. really love my monte, but can someone tell me if its worth it? no other major issues, but dont want another car payment.

I would get another couple bids too, never hurts, you will sleep better kn owing your not getting beat up. So $1500 and then you still have to get it painted or is that in his quote? Why is he wanting to do it from front to back? Is the rust starting to show through all along your rockers too?
So your saying the PA inspectors can fail you for having visible rust? I men if it's not compromising the integrity of the uni-body assembly I don't se a real problem. Rust happens...

I've spent more than twice what mine is worth cause I love my montte! The question you should really be asking is, is it worth it to you. Here in western Washington I've seen 6th gen Montes in all kinds of Disrepair. And I wonder how someone could let such I nice car get so bad! I guess that's cause I care enough about my Monte to Take care of it. It all depends on your feelings for yours. If you Live it, then it's worth it!

Thanks guys, will be looking for other bids, I guess it depends on where you take it for the inspection that decides weather it will pass or not, its under the outside panel , theres 2 spots that its literally crumbling, right behind both front wheelwells, i put it up on the ramps one day to change the oil, and when i opened the drivers door it began pushing in on the front fender, JC ive seen some bad ones too, ive had some mechanics tell me its in great shape for 15, but ive kept touchup done on it, sand and paint and kept rust at bay, but it dont do much for the undercarriage, he said he would do front to back, it would last the life of the car problem is he unsure about how far he will have to go once he starts the project, Hubby suggests we look for another monte, but there really hard to find, i shouldnt complain, i do have another car a grande prix, but its not Pearl.
