I think if it's the only part of the car that's black (not including the tires), it'll look out of place. If you want to keep it black, try putting some black accents somewhere else on the car. Maybe some pinstriping, or the moulding on the rocker panels, or the spoiler on the deck lid.

Posting some pics might help us get the creative juices flowing. Have we mentioned how much we like pics?

Welcome to the board.

Can't really picture it in my mind, but as Wiz says, I think a black grill insert on a completely white car will not look good.

Black would only look good if you black out the logo, and the bumper area behind the grille. Otherwise it'll shine through like a light...

Personally.... I'd paint it white, and still do everything behind it black so you can't see it back there.

I just put one on my black car, and if I could do it again, I would've painted the area behind the grill matte black, as the gloss from the emblem area in the middle is quite noticeable. I recommend that you do that first. Definately paint it white. I think someone just put one on a red car and painted the grille area silver. I think all white would look the best with black behind it. My 2cents.
Are your Monte Carlo emblems white?
