Default oil additive to clean engine

I was wondering if anyone knows a good oil additive to clean out the engine. I usually add lucas at every oil change but was wondering about using something like seafoam to actually clean out the buildup.

I run seafoam through my monte's every few months and have had good luck with it, just make sure you add to tank when it is near empty and use a funnel, the bottle isn't the best for pouring into the tank without one

Seafoam is good stuff.

Use a good quality full synthetic motor oil and you won't have build up problems. On an engine that does have build up, you can start running a full synthetic in it and it will clean it up internally over time.

I totally agree if the oil your using doesn't keep the internals clean your using the wrong oil. I use Mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic.

I too don't use any additives, do think it goes back to the oil you put in during the oil change. Mine is AMSOIL 15-50 and their filter.

Now if your wanting to use a pre-oil change engine cleaner there are those products out there. Just before you change your oil pour the cleaner into the oil filler neck and follow the instructions. They don't like you doing high rpm's while the cleaner is in your engine oil, could spin a bearing etc. But I have used these in the past on my old truck and was amazed at all the extra carbon / buildup that came out.

Look at Autozone etc. or items like these products.

not to be that guy but, zippy this cleaner you speak of says dont have high revs with it in there. that tells me its breaking down the oil to "clean" which at low or high revs is bad no matter what!

*i use rotella t6 5w40 with a acdelco pf52 filter for the record*

I personally have noticed that with the engine clean additive the results are actually unbelievable and off the charts compared to not using the engine cleaner additive at all. I use the best additive that you could possibly get for this process along with the best possible oil out there that you could be using. The difference between this and another combination of products is extremely noticeable for me. I could use the additive every oil change but I do it every other one.
