OD and cold weather?
Hi all,
Quick question about lock-up and cold weather.
In cold weather only my tranny will not "drop down" the RPM's in fourth gear untill the motor has warmed up. I could be doing 60-70 and pulling 2300 revs. once the motor/tranny warm up it goes back down to a little under 2000 depending on my speed. Is this normal?
I know some cars have the feature where you cant put it in drive on very cold days untill its warmed up a bit. Is this something like that, protection for the convertor?
thanks,
Chuck

RE: OD and cold weather?
with my loud pipes, i notice it very much. my car won't go into OD until its at about 160 degrees.... the engine warms up better in 3rd and the its safer on the transmission.

Whew. That must be it then. I noticed mine doing the same thing lately but never thought about the temp. It did it yesterday when I started out, motor fairly cold and air temp cold, but by the time I got halfway where I was going I didn't notice it anymore. Thinking back, best as I can recall, there is a pattern there. I read about all these tranny problems then I become paranoid, LOL.
