Default Not taking fuel!

So I recently bought an 03 Monte SS with the 3.8. things ive done so far:

alternator
spark plugs/wires
serpentine belt
oil/filter
fuel pump
fuel filter
vent solenoid (in the drivers rear wheel well area)
inspected the filler neck and rubber hose that goes to the fuel tank

This thing will NOT take any fuel! Go to the gas station and it just spits back out at me. Once I replaced the solenoid it at least clicks off and doesnt spit back at me. I have to sit there and let it go down and click for another 20 cents before its "full" again and rinse and repeat. Just trying to see what else I can do as I'm being told the charcoal canister needs to be replaced and that needs the fuel tank to be dropped in order to change it out. The car runs perfeclty fine it just eats up alot of gas and will not fill up. I've tried to leave it half way out....from an angle...all the way in....leaving the car running while I'm filling it up....nothin just seems to help or work here. there is NO check engine light or any type of warning on the dash. I also tried filling up via a gas can and it does the same thing as it does at the pump...just spits back at me.

Now I'm not a mechanic by trade and this is my first foray into the mechanic world, so bare with me if I ask stupid questions or this post itself is written stupidly. I've seen a few post in here but everything that was listed as a fix I seem to have already done. So PLEASE...any help would be appreciated!

It really sounds like a clog or a problem with the venting system. How did you inspect the fill neck? Run something down through it?

I admit, I am interested in the solution to this.

I removed the filler neck and just ran some water down it...flowed freely through. also inspected the rubber hose that connects to the filler neck...nothing seemed to be in there either

kind of did all i could on my own...everything else is going to need a little more skill than i currently posses....dropping a fuel tank and all that kind of scares me lol....i reached out to a mechanic who does home calls and he will be by next weekend so hopefully he figures out something i missed and i dont need to replace the charcoal canister but it just seems to be not venting properly for some reason....def got me scratching my head

well..::it ended up being the charcoal canister….replaced that and now it takes gas no problem…doesn’t click off or anything….onky thing now is that it seems to just be running thru gas…its burning it off real quick…I’ve been using premium to help clean the system out form sitting for so long and replacing so many parts within the evap/fuel system::::if it’s not 1 thing it’s another 🤦🏽‍♂️
No clue y it’s running so rich now though 🤦🏽‍♂️

I wouldnt waste your money. Premium fuel isn't better fuel, its just more resistant to knock. So if your engine doesn't require/reccomned premium, then you're just throwing money down the toilet.

If there is something in the system that needs cleaned, there's nowhere near enough solvent in pump fuel to make any difference over the course of a few tanks. There are specific cleaners made for doing that though.

Need to plug in a scan tool and find out whats going on. See what the fuel trims are, what the front O2 is reading, etc etc.

cool….thanks for the info! I’ll try another fuel system cleaner then…any suggestions on a good one to use? Or any of them are fine?

and yea I’m probably going to have to just bring it in then.:::I don’t have a scan tool to do it…I’ve kind of just going off of Google and advice from a buddy who works on cars on his side time as a hobby

Great news to hear you got the fix to the fill up problem! Thanks for providing that!

As for the running through fuel. I agree with Bumpin, need some data. It could just be past due for some TLC (plugs, wires, filters, etc).
