fuel tank
Have had some issues lately with my Monte. Changed the fuel filter night before last, changing the fuel pump this afternoon. My husband wants to drain the tank and clean it out since the little bit of fuel that came out when we changed the filter had dirt floating in it, so he wants to know if there is a drain plug on the tank.

Unfortunately...there isnt....But once you remove the fuel pump....you should be able to pour out what remainder of gas dirt etc (provided your removeing the gas tank)...rather easily...

As stated there isn't a drain plug on the fuel tank. But you could siphon a good amount out after removing the pump. In order to dump all the fuel out you would have to remove the tank completely. Being that there was some residual dirt prior to the filter isn't really a big issue. It just means your filter is working properly I wouldn't be too concerned about it really.

I'm with Pacer on this. The 6th gen Monte has no need to drop the tank unless the tank itself is damaged (it's a plastic tank and there is a fuel pump access in the trunk). You can just suck the old gas out through the access.
Also, keep in mind before the fuel filter, most pumps I've seen has a "sock" on them to help pre-filter the fuel before it goes very far.
Here's perhaps a better question.... What issues are you having that prompted changing the fuel pump?

I wish they had a trunk access on my 5th gen....But ti doesnt, So naturally it had to removed from the vehicle....
So yes I couldnt agree more with Pacer, and Maniac on removeing residual gas!
Great info guys!!!

The car I bought about 2 months ago sat at a dealer for a few months.
Is it possible that the sock on the fuel pump got clogged ?
I am having issues with acceleration.
The shutters when you get up to about 25 miles an hour.
Feels like someone is pushing back on the gas.
No power going up hills.
Feels like someone is lightly pushing on the back bumper while trying to get up speed.
Already replaced the fuel filter.
Hope it's not the Cat.
Going to try and clean the EGR passageway to Intake or check the EGR valve.
Is this a sign that the fuel pump is going up ?
