2000 monte carlo stalling after running out of gas
Hello hopefully someone can give me some advice... I made the mistake of runnning out of gas on my 2000 chevy monte carlo 3.4..... and now it stalls after a little while slowing down... and the battery light comes on. When I turn it off it turns right back on ...... It also stutters now while giving it more gas after a stop sign >>PLEASE HELP SOMEBODY Thanks

First, that subject line made me laugh.... Sorta sounded like the obvious....
Second, just going by what little you mentioned, problem developed after running the tank dry, I think 3 things:
- First, what mairj40 mentioned, when was the last fuel filter change?
- Second, failing fuel pressure regulator. I've heard of people having this type of stalling issue and sometimes mis-fires due to a fuel pressure regulator going bad.
- Third, perhaps a failing fuel pump. As I understand, GM designs the fuel pump to be in the tank so the fuel in the tank helps keep the pump "cool". I wonder if the pump was on it's way out and running the tank until it was bone dry just took it over the edge..... I would check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail.
By chance, have you had it scanned for any trouble codes in the computer?

X2 Agreed ... Change the fuel filter 1st , its the cheapest and most easy , its likely it could have sucked up some trash. Then do a fuel pressure test. If your fuel pump is gonna fail ,it will usually just die without warning and will not start back up. I never let my fuel drop below a 1/4 tank , because ive burned up a few pumps in my day, and they are not fun to change!

Sounds to me like a fuel pressure issue...
Usually it turns out that you end up changeing the fuel pump!
(Probably on its way out)
Especially since this started to happen after running out of gas!
U sucked up what ever gunk was in the tank..Thus damageing the pump..But definately change the fuel filter..

FYI - If it is the fuel pump, the 2000+ Monte has an access hatch to it in the trunk. Remove the carpet covering between the spare tire and the rear seat and their it shall be.
