Arrow Is this normal (voltage gauge)

I have a 2004 Monte Carlo SS that I've own for about a week now and when I first start the car, the battery light stays on and voltage gauge reads about 11.5-12 volts for about 3-5 seconds then the gauge jumps to 13.5-ish volts and the battery light goes out. Is it normal for this to happen for a few seconds after startup every time or am I looking at a possible issue with the alternator, voltage regulator, a relay or something like that?

Not normal. You may want to drive up to the parts store and have them do an on-vehicle battery/alternator test.

Battery has a date code of 1/24 on it so it's unlikely that (though still possible, I know). I guess I need to hit up the parts store on the way home from work and have them test the alternator.

My thought it more an alternator issue than a battery. The on the car test at the parts store is quick and free. Worth a shot.
