No problem Brugert! I'm assuming that took care of your problem?

Slugger088, the factory amp is in the trunk, mounted up under the rear shelf. I'm aware of three systems for the 06 Monte: base radio with single CD, MP3 radio with single CD (standard in SS), and MP3 radio with 6-disc CD (option in SS). I'm pretty sure your 5-disc CD changer in the trunk is not factory. Unless I'm unaware of something, I've never seen, nor am I aware of, GM mounting a factory CD changer in the trunk on these cars. I'd say you probably have the MP3 radio single CD system and someone added the 5-disc changer as an aftermarket addition? I could be wrong. Anyone else know more?

Would disconnecting the negative on the battery not do the same as pulling the fuse? I'm just asking because of my mystery problem I'm having in my front DS speaker. It crackles and pops at random while driving and will sometimes continue to do this when I turn the car off and close the door (even when the dome light goes out). Changed the front speakers out today (they're old anyway) thinking it was a ground problem in that speaker but it's still doing it.....

Hi 06mistress,

Well there is indeed something mounted up under the rear shellf of my car. I am 100 % positive my disc changer is a 5 disc changer with an AUX to plug an iPOD in for mp3's. I load all my discs in the actual unit itself not in the trunk or anything like that. My system looks exactly like the units that come in all of these cars so I know its not an after market stereo.

I will take a picture of the amp I have and maybe someone can tell me if what exactly I have in my car. All i can read off the amp itself is a sticker that looks to say panasonic. I will post pics in the next couple days.

Thanks

I misread what you initially said. I thought you meant the CD changer WAS the gray box in the trunk... I gotcha now. I did check my factory amp, in the trunk, and it IS a Panasonic. The factory unit in the dash should be a 6-disc changer though, but yeah post a few pics when you get a chance!
