GenV Writeup

RE: GenV Writeup
Here is how the snout and the rotor pack mate up. You can see my bolt extractor in the back. All the oil is located inbetween these 2 parts so as you can see there really isn't that much oil.

Sweet. Yeah, you're best bet on polishing that is definitely to start with high grit, then moving down to low grit. I have my tips mostly finished, but I can definitely tell the different between the one I spent 4 hours with 800 grit before using a cotton wheel and polishing compound, and the tip I spent 40 minuts with the 800 grit before moving to polishing... ahhh well, at least I'll be able to take em off later to work on em again.

RE: GenV Writeup
FYI, Throw that WD-40 away. Go buy some good Cleaner, Lubricant, and Protector (AKA Gun Cleaner)
WD-40 is corrosive, and over time, will cause severe damage to moving metal parts. That is why the Army, Marines, Airforce, Navy, and Coast Guard aircraft maintenance crews are FORBIDDEN to use it.
Lookin good Dan, I look forward to seeing your progress. I just used my pulley puller tonight, and pulled the stock pulley. My snout turndown from ZZP is on its way to turn it down for 2.8 pulleys and below (a long way off, but better to be prepared.)
Keep the pics comin! Are you gonna replace the coupler while you have it apart?

I just had the WD-40 laying around and used it to try to help a bolt out. I need to get some liquid wrench sometime.
What coupler are you talking about? The snout? I haven't heard of a coupler much less a reason to change one.

The couplers are supposedly notorious for wearing out over time and showing some wear and then eventually giving play in your snout's attachment from the snout to the bearings, etc.

RE: GenV Writeup
Ahhh. And knowing is half the battle.
After looking at it I'm not going to swap it now. The thing only has 3,000 miles on it. If I swap it, it will be done closer to 60,000 or so.
This is actually a very good write up and wish I would have seen it earlier. It bugs me that the switched from a 13mm bolt design on the Gen IIIto a T-40 Torx design on the Gen V. I have to get all new bolts because some are stripped and the others I don't feel comfortable with.
