RE: tire sizes
Welcome to the forum. I have an '02 SS with the eibach kit. I am running 255-45-17's and they fill the wheelwells up nicely. You can look at some pics in my profile. I thinkthe 225 - 50's will be too skinny and you won't be happy with the way they fit the wheelwells once you lower it. Just my $0.02. Good luck!

RE: tire sizes
Hey Pat, welcome to MCF.
I just want to give you some food for thought here since you don't have your age posted and might not be looking at the grand scheme of things.
I'm all for lowering kits because they do look nice, but I also noticed you live in IL. You might not want to go with the lowering kit because you will bottom out more and are going to have more problems driving in the winter with snow.
I don't want to discourage you, but just want you to think about places you go, the steepness of driveways, ect. The kits are cool and look awesome on the Monte but I don't want you to drop $400 or whatever they cost just to hear you scraping everytime you leave the driveway.

RE: tire sizes
the 255-45's I'm running are about the biggest I could fit. The rear tires will rub slightly if I hit a bump with a couple of people in the back seat. Check out the tire manufacturer's websites and they'll have the spec's on tire sizes, such as width, height, etc. Also, if you are putting aftermarket wheels on, the offset will affect the fit. Check witht he people youa re bying from, but make sure they know what they are talking about. Sometimes you might get some kid who isn't that knowlegeble.
Ihave the same kit and the rear is a little lower than I like. You might consider going with the 1.5" in front and 1" in rear. It will make the car sit more evenly, maybe even slightly higher in the rear. It would be a more aggressive look, and might prevent the tire rubbing.

One more thing - Imtimidator is right - you'll scrape on speed bumps and driveways and such, but mostly it's the plastic airdam under the front of the car and no damage is done. I have had what I assumed was the mufflers scrapewhile coming out of a driveway. I usually try to make sure I hit driveways and speedbumps at an angle instead of straight on to prevent scraping.
