Good Morning,

I need some advice about putting a new engine (possibly transmission too) in a 1983 Monte Carlo SS. As I'm sure you know, the vehicle came from the factory with a 305, and a T350 trans. I have a Vortec 350, sitting in a 1997 GMC van, in my driveway. I want to steal the engine out of the van to drop in the Monte.

I'm in the process of removing all of the unnecessary emissions controls from the vehicle. As well, I plan on making the Vortec 5700 Carbureted w/ an Edelbrock 650, and replacing the stock exhaust manifold with custom headers (unless I can find aftermarket ones that fit the car and engine).

This is the first time I've done somethign like this, and I'm doing a LOT of reading, and asking questions. But I want to know if anyone has done anythign similar, and what I can expect to see for problems. I'm assuming mounting brackets between the two engines might be very different. How much modification would be needed to bolt up the transmission?

Has anyone out there put a manual transmission in one of these things? Can it be done? How much work/$$$ would it take?
