Default drivabilty issues

hi,
I have a 2001 Monte Carlo SS. Last week I noticed some idle issues from cold start, engine would hunt a little for a few seconds then idle OK. Monday car nearly stalled on the way home from work. Engine idled very rough, barely made it to the shoulder of the freeway. Had car towed home, Pulled codes P0420, P0102, P0131, changed Idle Air Control Valve, P0420 ( EGR valve replaced 2yrs ago) code went away. Car started and idled OK. 5 minutes later restarted car very rough idle and stall. I let car sit for 3 hour tried again car started and idle fine. Tuesday I drove to work and home and several other places with no issues. Went out an hour later car started and stalled within seconds. From posts I have read on MCF sounds like it could be the mass airflow sensor? If it is mass airflow sensor should i just replace or try cleaning? Any help is greatly appreciated, took off work today to try and resolve this issue. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the MAF is acting up, try cleaning it first.

I disconnected (electrically) mass airflow sensor, engine started and ran without stalling.
I cleaned mass airflow sensor, same issue, engine starts the stalls. Should I replace MAF sensor?

2001 SS

I looked at the MAF one more time. Female employee at Autozone noticed a huge chunk of dirt on the sensor. She told me to gently scrape it clean and replace air filter. I did, put it back in car reconnected it and engine started, idled and ran with MAF connected. I drove around a few miles no issues. I think I'm good to go.
