Doesn't like to start and Doesn't like to stay running!
I have a 2000 Monte SS 3.8. 174,000miles. It has a hard start, and dies while driving down the road. Some days it's fine, other days it dies 3-4 times on a 40 mile trip. I have been to 2 garages and two different chevy dealerships. First was the fuel filter, NOPE! Then MAF sensor, NOPE! Next was the dealership told me it was the fuel pump. $250 down the drain!! Took it to dealership again today and they say it might be the ignition switch. It ran fine the last 3 days with no problem, and they couldn't get it to act up until it was in the wash bay. Read codes B2958 -P1626 - P0107 - P0171 - P1107 - P0463 PCM shutting down engine. Security light is on. (whitch it had been on ever since I bought the car a year ago, but just started acting up about 4 months ago). Could this REALLY be the problem? I am tired of putting money into this issue. (At least I go the two most expensive things knocked out. (MAF was $150 and fuel pump $250) Everything else I looked at sensor and ignition switch wise is less than $100. Just wondering and maybe someone else has this same issue.

Reading the symptoms, my guess would be old plugs and wires. If it has the factory original plugs, those were to last 100,000 miles, 150,000 is pushing it. If it still has those in it, way over due for new ones. If they have been changed, if BOSCH plugs were used, dump them NOW (BOSCH plugs suck in GM v6's, stick with AC Delco or NGK plugs).
But the fact they pulled a bunch of service codes, if you are going to the dealer, they have access to ALL GM's best tech data to figure this out. My first thought would be to look at those codes and figure out if anything is common across them and/or what may cause the engine to stop.
Personally, the codes should have been checked and diagnosed FIRST before chucking money at anything else (the car provides those as a means to improve diagnosising what it's malfunction could be).

B2958 refers to a poor terminal connection at the BCM. P1626 refers to the BCM either not receiving the correct signal or losing signal from the fuel enable circuit. P0107 refers to a low input signal at the MAP sensor. P0171 refers to a lean condition on bank 1. P1107 refers to an intermittent low signal at the MAP sensor. P0463 refers to the fuel level circuit voltage being high.
My suggestion would be to clean the connectors on the PCM (located in the air box), the BCM (located behind dash), the connectors on the MAP, MAF & fuel sending unit, the battery terminals and all the ground points on the body/transmission. Then I would clear the codes, do a security relearn and see if any of the codes return.
This vehicle wasn't in a flood, was it?

As you rolled off what the codes translate too, this question began coming to my mind.
not that I know of about being in a flood. Is there any way I can check that. The tittle was originally from wisconsin and was a clean and clear tittle.
I took it to a place that told me it was a MAF sensor, so I changed it. When it wasn't that, I took it to the dealership and they told me it was the fuel pump. After that didn't solve it,took it back today and they now say it is the ignition switch. I really don't think this dealership knows what they are doing, because everything was the same when they told me it was fuel pump before. I don't really want to throw more money away!! I bought this car a year ago, and it ran fine up until the last few months.
I will check these things first, thanks for the info so far!

not sure why they replaced the fuel filter or the maf sensor. i looked up all the codes and it has nothing to do with a maf sensor. either you have a bad connection in the pcm, in which a tap test of the pcm will determine that or you have a bad map (manifold air pressure) sensor. all the codes have one thing in common and its those two. like i said earlier, not sure why they replaced the maf sensor. you might be able to pick the map sensor cheap and replace it. if you can i'd start there. but a trained technition would know how to do a pcm terminal check. looks like they didn't want to cause of laziness cause it is very time consuming and you have to use all different kinds of test leads and its easy to screw up the terminal. if i where you i'd change dealerships. As far as the p0463 code goes, i'm wondering if you (or if you bought it used, the previous owner) ever changed the fuel filter. that code deals with high fuel pressure and the only way i can see that is if you didn't replace the fuel filter making it work harder than normal over heating it and then when you had the fuel filter replaced, thats when that problem came about. as far as the other codes i'm betting its the map sensor though. But, i'm wondering when the car was sitting under the wash rack was the engine sprayed down with water? that would mean a bad connection so thats why i recommend a pcm terminal check and also a map sensor terminal check. hoope this helps.
